 abstract={Implementation of metadata descriptions for learning resources is regarded as a key enabler for the next stage of e-leaming infrastructure development defined by Downes as „learning object economy”. It is envisaged that at this stage distributed learning objects (LO) will form a network of sharable resources allowing content deliverers to exchange them for quick and cheap development of new products. In this paper an introduction to SCORM/LOM standards is presented. Next selected implementation problems are described, as well as results of statistical surveys of metadata usage in a few e-leaming repositories. It is argued that for efficient exchange of LO both quality metadata and content (based on XML) are important. To achieve this goal the reuse of standards and tools developed in the Electronic Libraries Community should be considered.},
