 abstract={The article is a proposal of constructing a structural measure of regional development to account for the internal diversification of regional areas. The proposal refers to hierarchic objects that may split into inner objects with explicit relations between their characteristics. The procedure of constructing such a measure involves two stages: classification of the inner objects and construction of a measure of development of hierarchic objects. The articles concludes with empirical illustration of the proposal, involving 16 Polish regions of NUTS-2 type and 44 sub-regions (NUTS-3).},
