The study also takes into account the impact of the scale of the unemployment rate on GDP per capita, treating it as an indicator of the productivity of the economy. The research, which was carried out on a group of 45 countries for the years 1995-2006, showed that the larger the rate of unemployment in the country, the less the scale of innovative activity and lower levels of productivity. Effect of changes in the unemployment rate on the size of R&D activities has been the largest in the business sector, and lowest in the higher education sector.
